The Libra New Moon Starts Your Relationship Reset

The first new moon of fall is here! And just like the beautiful, aesthetically pleasing season of autumn, this new moon is happening in a sign connected to beauty and love and harmony, Libra.

This new moon rises on October 10 in Libra, and it lights up all of our one-on-one connections. Romantic relationships, yes, but also friendships, business partners, collaborators, and even the relationship you have with yourself (which is kind of the foundation for all the others, right?). The ones you’re in, the ones you’ve outgrown, and the ones you’re ready to call in. Think of this new moon as a relationship reset.

We’re right in the middle of Libra season, the season of partnership, balance, and give-and-take. But there’s a twist… Venus, the planet that rules Libra (and rules love, money, and attraction), stationed retrograde in Scorpio on October 3. So the planet ruling this new moon is walking backward through the deepest, most truth-seeking sign of the zodiac. Which means this isn’t just a sweet, rose-colored new moon… It’s a new moon with some depth to it.

Venus Retrograde in Scorpio: Looking at Our Relationship Shadows

Venus retrograde is a time for review. A relationship audit, so to speak. Looking back at our relationships, our patterns, and what we believe we deserve when it comes to love. And in Scorpio? It isn’t subtle… It goes deep. It wants to know what’s beneath the surface.

So if you’ve noticed old feelings bubbling up, an ex popping into your mind or your DMs;), or a friendship that suddenly feels a little off, that’s very Venus retrograde in Scorpio energy. It’s shining a light on the things we don’t always want to look at. The one-sided dynamics. The resentment swallowed to keep the peace. The showing up for people who don’t show up for us. Bringing to the surface the things that could feel uncomfortable to look at.

But even though this can be a difficult thing, it is also a good thing. Because you can’t set a clear intention for your relationships if you’re not being honest about them.

Libra Season: The Art of Giving and Receiving

Libra is the sign of the scales, and at its heart, Libra is about balance. Not perfection… balance. In relationships, that looks like reciprocity. Of course, there could be seasons where one person is going through something and so, in turn, someone is giving more in the relationship. But in general, the goal is reciprocity. Both people giving. Both people receiving. Both people feeling seen. Both people feeling loved.

So on this new moon, do some pondering. Which relationships feel balanced? Which ones feel heavy? Where are you over-giving, and where could you be letting someone in a little more? And this goes for all of our one-on-one relationships.

Setting Your Relationship Intentions

Here’s the good news… Even with Venus retrograde, this is still a new moon, a fresh start in the lunar cycle and a clean energetic slate. And Venus retrograde in Scorpio actually makes this a really powerful time to set intentions around love and connection, because you’re setting them from a place of honesty.

A few ways to work with this new moon:

Write down what you’re ready to release from your relationships. A pattern, a role you always end up playing, a dynamic that keeps repeating.

Then write down the kind of relationships you want to call in. How do you want to feel? What does reciprocity actually look like for you?

And then, possibly pick one small tangible way to honor that intention this week. Maybe it’s saying no to something. Maybe it’s getting more plans on the calendar with a friend who shows up for you.

And if this new moon feels more like a releasing one for you, that very much works too!! Sometimes making room for the relationships you want starts with thinking about if you need to let go of the ones that no longer fit.
