Eclipse Season Magic: Powerful Spells for Release, Renewal & Realignment

Eclipse season arrives twice a year, ushering in undeniable transformation. These cosmic events—solar eclipses aligned with new moons and lunar eclipses aligned with full moons—have long carried an air of mystery. Ancient cultures viewed them as powerful omens, moments when the Sun or Moon disappeared into shadow and the world paused in awe.

Anything mysterious or beyond our control can stir fear, and eclipses are no exception. Yet the temporary dimming of light is not a sign of danger—it’s an invitation. Eclipses call us to step into the unknown, trust what we cannot yet see, and honor the truth that transformation often happens in the shadows. They are turning points, moments when the veil thins, reminding us that life is cyclical, not linear. The sudden shadow, the cosmic reset, the realignment—all are potent reminders that growth often follows disruption.

By consciously working with eclipse energy, we can harness these celestial events for release, renewal, and radical realignment.

Working with Eclipse Energy

Unlike ordinary new and full moons, eclipses accelerate timelines. They bring clarity where denial has lingered, shake us from stuck places, and realign us with our higher purpose. Think of them as cosmic course corrections: what no longer serves us falls away, and what’s truly aligned comes sharply into focus.

If change seems to arrive suddenly during eclipse season, that’s the magic at work. Eclipses disrupt comfort zones, reminding us that growth is rarely easy—but always necessary. When we approach this energy with intention, rituals and spells can transform what feels unsettling into a sacred source of empowerment.

A Spell for Release (Lunar Eclipse Ritual)

Best performed during a lunar eclipse with the full moon, when letting go comes naturally.

1. Light one black candle and one white candle, symbolizing clearing, illumination, and protection.
2. On a slip of paper, write what you’re ready to release: fears, habits, relationships, or doubts.
3. Using the candle flame, safely ignite the paper. Let the smoke rise as an offering of release.
4. Place the burning paper in a cauldron or fire-safe dish. As the ashes cool, speak aloud: “What no longer serves me dissolves with ease.”

This ritual helps you shed the old and make space for aligned growth.

A Spell for Renewal (Solar Eclipse Ritual)

Best performed during a solar eclipse with the new moon, when planting new seeds is most powerful.

1. Fill a bowl with water—preferably solar-charged water infused with sunlight.
2. Add a pinch of salt for purification and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. (Lavender for calm, orange for joy, rosemary for protection—trust your intuition.)
3. Place your hands above the water and declare a vision for your life. Be bold, specific, and heartfelt.
4. Dip your fingers in the water and trace it over your heart, crown, and hands, saying: “I welcome new beginnings with open arms.”

This ritual sets intentions with clarity and calls new opportunities into being.

A Spell for Radical Realignment (Anytime in Eclipse Season)

Perfect when you feel ungrounded or uncertain during eclipse shifts.

1. Stand barefoot on the earth—grass, soil, or sand if possible.
2. Imagine roots unfurling from your feet deep into the ground, anchoring and supporting you.
3. Visualize a stream of light running from your crown through your heart, belly, and into Earth’s core.
4. Take three deep breaths: with each exhale, release fear and confusion; with each inhale, draw in strength and clarity.
5. Repeat three times: “I am aligned with my highest path. I trust the changes unfolding for me.”

When finished, bring your palms together at your heart, then journal what radical realignment means for you now.
