September’s New Moon Is Your Best Chance to Make Big-Time Life Changes

On September 6, 2021 (5:52 PM Pacific Daylight Time), there will be a new moon at 14°38’ of Virgo.

“Anything worth doing is worth doing right.” As we set our intentions for the September new moon, this Hunter S. Thompson quote is worth keeping in mind. Chances are, each of us has something in our lives that we could be a bit more conscientious about—whether it’s sharpening our skills, practicing healthier habits, or making choices that better align with our integrity.

The point here isn’t that we’re trying to be perfect. At this new moon, we’re simply moving toward a greater sense of wholeness. Virgo, the sign of clarity and discernment, shows us what changes need to be made—and the practical steps that we can take to make them.

September New Moon Meaning

True, with this new moon exactly trining Uranus in Taurus, the path ahead may take some unexpected twists and turns. But the more carefully we plan and prepare for what we can, the easier it will be to pivot if and when Uranus flips the script. It’s kind of like being a virtuoso jazz musician: The more we’ve practiced all our scales and chords, the more effortlessly inspired our improvisations can be.

“Effortless” may not be the first word that comes to mind when we think of Virgo. But with three exact trines at this lunation, everything seems to be happening just a little bit more naturally. The secret, as Mars trines Pluto in Capricorn, is putting our personal energy and willpower in the service of a higher power (however we define that for ourselves). As long as they’re in harmony with the forces of nature, even our simplest actions can have a transformative impact.

Ideally, though, it won’t just be our own lives that we’re changing for the better. A third trine, between Venus in Libra and Jupiter in Aquarius, reminds us that we’re all in this together… and there’s more than enough abundance for everyone. From our personal relationships, to our local communities, to humanity in general, we’re supported in setting intentions with each other’s best interests in mind.

Of course, our own ideas about what’s for the common good may be radically different from the next person’s. With Venus squaring Pluto the day before this new moon, we’re likely to see some conflicts coming up around core values.

Fortunately, as lunation ruler Mercury in Libra harmonizes with Saturn in Aquarius, we’re willing to make the effort to understand each other better. Mercury’s opposition with Chiron in Aries (September 7) could trigger some sensitivities, as we’re confronted with perspectives that contradict our own. But we shouldn’t necessarily feel threatened by these differences of opinion.

After all, there’s a big difference between feeling unsafe and simply feeling uncomfortable. Sometimes a little discomfort is necessary for healing to happen. And with this Virgo new moon making an awkward aspect to Chiron, right now it might be just the medicine we need!

Libra

Scorpio

It’s smart to be selective about the company you keep—especially, Scorpio, at this new moon. The ground is fertile for new friendships to form and flourish. But for this “garden” to grow into a thriving support system, choose carefully which connections to water and which ones to weed out.

Your profile might look picture-perfect. But Sagittarius, only you know for sure how well your actual practices measure up to the image you’re presenting publicly. Integrity and authenticity are everything to you. So if something’s out of alignment, take this new moon as an opportunity to make the necessary adjustments.

Capricorn

Apply yourself, Capricorn! If you really put your mind to it at this new moon, there’s nothing you can’t learn—whether it’s a new skill, a new vocabulary word, or a whole new language. This studious energy is also excellent for planning a big trip, or researching your next travel destination.

Aquarius

Before you can change things for the better, Aquarius, you have to see them clearly as they currently are. Fortunately, this new moon is bringing clarity to shady situations that have been causing you confusion. Understanding the subtle, underlying dynamics between yourself and others can lead to some unexpected solutions.

Pisces

Teamwork makes the dream work, Pisces. But it’s not just about cooperation—it’s also about communication. Keeping each other informed about important details helps you to stay connected.

Aries

No matter how big your goals are, Aries, it’s the little things that set you up for success. So at this new moon, focus on making small improvements and adjustments. Chances are, you already have some ideas about how to change your habits, hone your skills, or streamline your schedule.

Taurus

Quality over quantity, Taurus! When it comes to fun activities and adventures, that’s the choice you’ll make almost every time—especially at this new moon. This month, the focus is less on checking items off your bucket list, and more on getting the most out of each and every experience.

Gemini

For you, Gemini, this new moon is all about getting your house in order—not just your physical living space, but your psychic space as well. Using discernment about whom and what you welcome into your life doesn’t mean you’re being snobby. It simply means you’re practicing good emotional and energetic hygiene.

Cancer

Be specific, Cancer! The more precise and detailed you are about stating your new-moon intentions this month, the easier it will be to notice them manifesting in your life. Just make sure to leave some room for happy accidents and pleasant surprises. Ask the universe for “this, or something even better.”

Leo

When it comes to managing your money, Leo, you’re all about working smarter, not harder. (Or better yet, putting your money to work for you!) Fortunately, this September new moon supports you in streamlining and simplifying your finances. The first step, though, is getting clear on your current state of financial health.
