January's Super Blood Wolf Moon Is a Can't-Miss Lunar Eclipse

At 9:16 p.m. PST on January 20, 2019, the full moon will be in Leo — and it doubles as a total lunar eclipse. No matter who you are, it’s impossible to look up at a full moon without feeling awe-inspired. And considering that January brings us a supermoon, which occurs when the orb is at its closest point to Earth, the urge to gaze is slated to be even stronger. Add a total lunar eclipse into the mix (the last until 2021, offering both moon and the surrounding sky a reddish hue) and you have what many are calling the “super blood wolf” moon. It’s safe to say you won’t be able to look away.

As if this celestial cocktail wasn’t high-impact enough, the year’s first full moon occurs in Leo—which really turns up the drama.

What Does the Full Moon in Leo Mean?

The moon governs our emotions and moods. And with lunar energies building to a climax in expressive, over-the-top Leo, everyone’s a little more likely to wear their heart on their sleeve.

To make things even more intense, this lunation is both opposite the sun (as are all full moons) and ruled by the sun —stirring up some complicated feelings about being seen and heard. On the one hand, we’re longing for the spotlight; on the other, we’re extremely sensitive about how our audience might perceive us.

Leo loves taking center stage, and basking in the applause that (hopefully) comes with it. We all love to be loved—but when we put ourselves out there, there’s no guarantee that everyone will like us. This full moon reminds us how important it is to love ourselves, no matter how others might feel.

Fortunately, the sun in individualistic Aquarius shows us how to do our thing, without worrying too much about other people’s reactions. And as counterintuitive as it may seem, the less we chase after popularity and approval, the more likely we are to attract the right kind of attention—from people who really get us.

This full moon is all about letting your light shine. But remember, everyone deserves their moment in the sun—so if you’re always the one in the spotlight, it may be time to step aside and let others be seen and heard. After all, you’re one-of-a-kind—but so is everyone else!

Horoscopes for the January 2019 New Moon in Capricorn

Leo

Relationships make excellent mirrors, Leo —and when the image reflected back to you is a flattering one, it can be hard to look away! Still, if you’re always asking friends or partners to give you validation, that’s not a good look. You may be their shining star, but this full moon reminds you that you’re not the center of the universe.

Virgo

Good work is its own reward, Virgo. But that doesn’t mean you’re wrong to want a little more recognition for what you do. After all, when your efforts are taken for granted, even a labor of love can start to feel like a chore. At this full moon, it’s time to take credit where credit is due!

Libra

The more, the merrier, Libra! But with everyone’s busy schedules, it’s not always easy to get the whole gang together. Fortunately, your friends have you to keep them connected. But wouldn’t it be nice if someone else played hostess once in a while? At this full moon, it may be time to pass the torch so you can have some fun.

Scorpio

Hiding in plain sight, Scorpio? Flying under the radar may help you maintain your mystique—but it can also backfire by making you invisible. And if you want to be a real power player, that’s something you can’t afford! This full moon challenges to balance your need for privacy with your desire to stand out.

Sagittarius

Call us crazy, Sag, but we think you might be a little too open-minded. Don’t get us wrong—we admire your curiosity. But with so much emphasis on broadening your intellectual horizons, it’s easy to lose touch with what’s in your heart. This full moon is a chance to reconnect with the things you’re most passionate about.

Capricorn

What have you got to prove, Capricorn? Actually, quite a lot! What other people think of you matters more than you let on, and if they’re someone important, there’s little you wouldn’t do to earn their approval. There’s nothing wrong with trying to earn someone’s respect—but at this full moon, it’s even more important to respect yourself.

Aquarius

Are you forgetting someone, Aquarius? With so much on your plate right now, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s going on in your loved ones’ lives—and chances are, somebody’s feeling neglected. You probably didn’t mean to freeze them out, but at this full moon, you may want to send some extra warmth their way.

Pisces

No one puts you in a corner, Pisces —except sometimes yourself. It can be all too easy to think of reasons why you’re not the one for the job. But there’s a certain kind of heart-centered leadership that only you can provide—and the world really needs it right now. At this full moon, it’s time to rise to the occasion.

Aries

You were born to be wild, Aries. And no matter how hard they try, you just can’t be tamed. Still, adapting yourself to social norms doesn’t always equal selling out—sometimes it’s just about putting yourself in the best possible light. This full moon helps you highlight your best features so you can shine your brightest.

Taurus

We’re all in this together, Taurus. But when the group decides to take a new direction, it’s easy to worry about getting left behind—especially when you’re the one who’s used to calling the shots. Taking a back seat can be hard on your pride, but at this full moon, you may have to take one for the team.

Gemini

Interested people are interesting, Gemini. But constantly trying to prove to others how interesting you are? That’s just exhausting! There’s no need to get competitive about who has the funniest stories, the most information, or the freshest take. At this full moon, just speaking from the heart about what really matters to you makes you fascinating enough.

Cancer

You get what you give, Cancer —but your thoughtful gestures and gifts don’t always get the reaction you’re hoping for. Are people just ungrateful, or are you expecting too much? Honestly, it may be a little of both. At this full moon, make sure you’re giving them what they really want and not just what you think they need.
