Your 2020 Horoscope—Life’s About to Get *Very* Real
Virgo
2020 has been a hot topic in astrology for what seems like years. But now that it’s finally here, should we believe the hype? The answer is an enthusiastic YES!
That’s because, with long-awaited conjunctions between Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto, 2020 is more than just the start of a new decade—it’s the beginning of several major new cycles which will unfold over the next 30 years.
The last Saturn-Pluto conjunction was in 1982. They meet again in Capricorn this January 12, initiating a long-term process of deconstructing and re constructing the basic structures of our lives, all for the sake of our personal and collective evolution.

Jupiter and Pluto also align in Capricorn on April 4, June 29, and November 12. Their conjunction, the first since 2007, brings whatever has become stagnant or toxic in our lives out of the darkness and into the light—not to scare us, but to empower us to change it.
Finally, the “Great Conjunction” of Jupiter and Saturn occurs at the winter solstice on December 21. Their meeting in visionary Aquarius kicks off a 20-year period in which each of us will be asked to step up our personal responsibility and play our unique part in building the future… together.
2020 Astrology: Key Astrological Transits
- Jupiter in Capricorn sextile Neptune in Pisces (February 20, July 27, and October 12): We’re assisted in giving physical shape and form to our creative dreams and visions. With this blend of pragmatism and idealism, we can move mountains—as long as we stay connected to reality.
- Venus in Gemini, April 3-August 7: We’re paying more attention to how we communicate and connect with others. Venus’ retrograde period (May 12-June 24) is a time to reexamine our heart’s desires and reevaluate what we really want in relationships… and in life.
- Mars in Aries, June 27-early 2021: We’re eager to move forward with bold new endeavors. Still, clashes with Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto in Capricorn make it likely we’ll encounter some resistance. Mars’ retrograde period (September 9-November 13) teaches us when to push ahead, and when to slow our roll.
- Eclipses in Cancer/Capricorn (January 10, June 21, and July 5) highlight the need to balance self-care and nurturing with self-discipline and hard work. Eclipses in Gemini/Sagittarius (June 5, November 30, December 14) focus on broadening intellectual, cultural, even geographical horizons.
- North node in Gemini/south node in Sagittarius, beginning May 5: Our spiritual growth this year lies in opening our minds and getting more curious about other people and the world around us.

Aries
Doing, or just being? With your ruling planet Mars in your sign for half the year (beginning June 27), we know what’s more comfortable for you. But Aries, this year’s astrology is not about making you—or anyone—comfortable! As eager as you are to push ahead with your own agenda, there are some forces beyond your control. And you’re likely to come up against them, courtesy of Pluto in Capricorn and his conjunctions with Saturn (January 12) and Jupiter (April 4, June 29, November 12). Things aren’t happening on your preferred timetable, but on the universe’s. You’re challenged to learn when to move forward, and when to fall back and wait for a more favorable time. Mars reinforces this lesson when he goes retrograde from September 9-November 13.
Taurus
There’s no more important relationship, Taurus, than the one you have with yourself. And as Uranus continues moving through your sign, that relationship continues to evolve in surprising ways. With your ruling planet Venus spending extra time in Gemini (April 3-August 7, retrograde May 12-June 24), you’ll enjoy ample opportunities to reflect on what you love, value, and desire most in life now. As you reevaluate pretty much everything, you’re also rediscovering your own self-worth. Two Capricorn conjunctions ( Saturn-Pluto: January 12; Jupiter-Pluto: April 4, June 29, November 12) make expansion and evolution practically inevitable for you this year. As Jupiter and Saturn move toward their Great Conjunction in Aquarius (December 21), you’re preparing to set some big new goals… and start showing up in a major way.
Gemini
Self-love isn’t selfish, Gemini—with Venus spending four months in your sign (April 3-August 7) and the north node moving in on May 5, it’s key to your spiritual growth. This year you’re encouraged to reconnect with yourself and follow your curiosity to your heart’s desire. Lunar eclipses in your sign (November 30) and opposite sign Sagittarius (June 5) support you in releasing old patterns or relationships that no longer serve. Focus on what really matters, instead of scattering your energy on non-essentials. A recurring Jupiter/Neptune sextile (February 20, July 27, October 12) encourages you to see your life purpose and path more realistically. When Jupiter and Saturn meet in Aquarius on December 21, you may be ready to consider an exciting new direction!
Cancer
This year brings two new moons and two full moons in your sign—including a lunar eclipse on January 10 and a solar eclipse on June 21. You’re shedding identities you’ve outgrown, Cancer, and becoming who you’re meant to be now. Two major conjunctions in your opposite sign of Capricorn ( Saturn-Pluto and Jupiter-Pluto ) challenge you to surrender to this process and trust that it’s for your highest good. Mental health and spirituality are areas of focus, with Mercury in your sign from May 28-August 4 and Venus in Gemini from April 3-August 7. Cultivate a deeper, more loving relationship with yourself here, so that when Jupiter and Saturn meet on December 21, you’ll be ready to begin a new cycle in your relationships with others.
Leo
With Mars burning through your fellow fire signs, (Sagittarius January 3-February 16; Aries June 27-early 2021), this year you’re burning brighter than ever. Be careful, though, Leo, not to burn yourself out! This year’s major Capricorn conjunctions ( Saturn-Pluto and Jupiter-Pluto ) bring reality checks around health and wellness, motivating you to make necessary lifestyle changes. Service to others also becomes more of a focus, as a Jupiter/Neptune sextile recurs three times (February 20, July 27, October 12). Uranus continues moving through your sign continues shaking up your personal goals and even your sense of self. You’re challenged to change the way you show up in the world and in your relationships—especially around the December 21 “Great Conjunction” of Jupiter and Saturn in your opposite sign of Aquarius.
Virgo
This year’s major Capricorn conjunctions ( Saturn-Pluto and Jupiter-Pluto ) are all about taking responsibility for your own happiness. Virgo, it’s time to restructure your life in a way that supports greater creativity, spontaneity, and joy! Part of this is releasing any fears and judgments keeping you from living your best life—a process assisted by Uranus in Taurus and Neptune in your opposite sign of Pisces. A recurring sextile between Jupiter and Neptune (February 20, July 27, October 12) also helps by connecting your down-to-earth, practical side with your dreamier, more romantic side. With Venus in Gemini for four months (April 3-August 7, retrograde May 12-June 25), you’ll enjoy keeping busy this year—as long as you narrow it down to the activities you really love.
Libra
Between two major Capricorn conjunctions ( Saturn-Pluto and Jupiter-Pluto ) and three Cancer/Capricorn eclipses (January 10, June 21, and July 5), this year may feel like a bit of a pressure cooker, Libra. As repressed emotions come up to the surface, give yourself room to feel them and heal them… even if that means being “antisocial” at times. Your ruling planet Venus in Gemini (April 3-August 7, retrograde May 12-June 24) eventually calls you out of hiding to explore new possibilities. With Mars entering your opposite sign, Aries, on June 27, conflicts with loved ones may arise. Instead of avoiding confrontation, use the tension to break through to a whole new level of personal freedom and space, which you’ll find around the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Aquarius on December 21.
Scorpio
With your ruling planet Pluto the focus of two major conjunctions (with Saturn in January and Jupiter in April, June, and November ), Scorpio, it’s time to harness the power of your mind and take greater responsibility for your thoughts and words. Eclipses along the Cancer/Capricorn axis (January 10, June 21, July 5) assist you in releasing unconscious attitudes and beliefs that you’ve picked up along the way. A recurring sextile between Jupiter in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces bridges the gap between your practical, logical “left brain” and your creative, intuitive “right brain.” With Uranus in Taurus all year and Venus in Gemini from April 3-August 7, don’t be surprised if all this sparks some intense conversations with your trusted confidants!
Sagittarius
With Venus in your opposite sign of Gemini from April 3-August 7 and the north node there from May 5 on, this year relationships are your greatest teachers. Lesson number one, Sag: Keep an open mind, and don’t take yourself too seriously! Jupiter, your ruling planet, spends most of the year in serious Capricorn, where he’ll align with Pluto (April 4, June 29, November 12) and sextile Neptune in Pisces (February 20, July 27, and October 12). These transits empower you to embody the best and brightest of your sign: honesty, generosity, and boundless enthusiasm. With Mars in Aries from June 27 on, you’ll be expressing yourself with greater confidence. The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Aquarius on December 21 encourages you to channel this toward the greater good!
Capricorn
All astrological eyes are on you, Capricorn, with Saturn, Pluto, and Jupiter converging in your sign. Eclipses in your sign and opposite sign Cancer (January 10, June 21, July 5) also make this a challenging—yet transformative—year. This year’s major conjunctions ( Saturn-Pluto January 12; Jupiter-Pluto ) April 4, June 29, and November 12) ask you to face your own limitations, surrender to the forces of inevitable change at work in your life, and trust that it’s all unfolding exactly as it should. With your ruler Saturn spending several months in Aquarius (March 21-July 1), you’re investing in the future—even if takes some sacrifice in the here-and-now. When Saturn reenters Aquarius and aligns with Jupiter on December 21, you’ll see how it was all worthwhile.
Aquarius
As Uranus continues shaking things up in Taurus this yea r, your radical, rebellious side clashes with a growing desire for stability and security. And with Capricorn energy dominating the astrological landscape—including a Saturn-Pluto conjunction on January 12 and Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions in April, June, and November—structure and boundaries are the name of the game. The truth is, Aquarius, having limits makes it easier—not harder—to express your individuality. It’s all about consciously choosing the structure or framework that fosters health, safety, wellbeing, and happiness for you. Saturn visits your sign from March 21-July 1, stepping up your self-discipline so that by December 21, when he and Jupiter meet in your sign, you’ll be ready to begin a brand-new cycle of personal growth and mastery.
Pisces
Watery Pisces, you need a “container” to give your life shape. And with Jupiter in Capricorn sextile Neptune in your sign (February 20, July 27, and October 12), this year you’ll have opportunities to find one by participating in groups of like-minded people. Keep showing up as your authentic self—your vibe will attract your tribe! Venus’ extended stay in Gemini (April 3-August 7) finds you enjoying lots of quality time with your family. But her squares with Neptune (May 3, May 20, and July 27) challenge you to loosen those family ties a little and explore who you are outside of that dynamic. After all, with Jupiter conjunct Pluto in Capricorn (April 4, June 29, November 12), growth isn’t just possible for you this year—it’s practically inevitable! Art by the fantastic Zdravko Zdravkov
