The Kind of Mother Each Zodiac Sign Tends To Be

Mother’s Day is around the corner—and during this period of the year, we seek to honor the many people who have been mother figures in our lives. When it comes to “maternal energy,” we often find these role models to provide needed guidance not only when we are children, but as we grow, as well. Whether one classifies their mother as their biological one, an adopted one, a “best friend,” a mentor, or even a father who exhibits strong maternal energy, we honor them at this time—Mother’s Day—which always takes place in May of each year. Let’s take a peek at the kind of mother each zodiac often tends to be!

ARIES (MARCH 21 – APRIL 19)

Independent, fiery, strong, and ruled by the planet Mars, the Aries mother likes to take charge. While she can take a dominant approach, she is often highly optimistic, enthusiastic and eager to rally for those who she loves. The Aries mother can be your biggest fan! She has a “can-do” attitude and will happily challenge her children to be the best that they can be. She often has a feisty temperament, loves adventure, and is happy to see her children venture off on their own. Of course, she’ll want to know all the exhilarating details!

TAURUS (APRIL 20 – MAY 20)

Aligned with the planet Venus, the Taurus mother is very earthy. She has a quiet strength to her but often is quite tender-hearted and affectionate. It is a top priority for her that her children have their needs met—and she can often be one of the best “gift givers” in the zodiac. She will go to great lengths to focus on stability and security, and may at times be a bit more domestic than some of the other zodiac signs. This can lead her to be especially focused on food, pleasure, and creating a sacred living space. However, it is likely she has a flair for beauty and will often push her children to not only express themselves, but to build their lives for the long-term. She is especially loyal.

GEMINI (MAY 21 – JUNE 20)

Gemini mothers are a whirlwind of fun, as they are an air sign and aligned with the planet Mercury. They favor communication above all—and can be a bit tech-savvy and popular—as they love to keep in constant connection with people. With incredible wit and a sense of humor, she tends to be one of the most upbeat individuals in the zodiac, and will enjoy attending events, meeting new friends, and venturing into new horizons. She may be a bit of a gossip, whether it’s wanting to know all of the details about her children’s social lives, or bragging about her children to her wide circle of friends!

CANCER (JUNE 21 – JULY 22)

In astrology, Cancer naturally rules home and domesticity, so you can be certain that the Cancer mother is going to put great emphasis on these aspects of life. As a natural-born caregiver, she is sensitive, nurturing, and kind. She takes great pride in the family that she builds, and can often be quite self-sacrificing for them. As a water sign, she also finds that expressing emotions and being vulnerable are of paramount concern, with her wanting to protect those who she holds dear. While her emotions may ebb and flow like the phases of the moon, and she can at times be a bit moody, she is tremendously loving and places value on tradition and the core family unit.

LEO (JULY 23 – AUGUST 22)

Ruled by our great luminary, the sun, the Leo mother is vibrant, exhilarating, and theatrical. She looks at her entire life like a kingdom, and that includes her home and family! Leos naturally tend to stand out from the crowd, so not only will she always try to do so herself, whether that be through expression or how she dresses, but she places her children on a pedestal and wants to see them as stars in their own right! This can lead her to encourage them to be very social, creative, and passionate. However, she can be quite fierce when she feels anyone has slighted her children—so she will unleash the lioness within if her tribe needs her to do so!

VIRGO (AUGUST 23 – SEPTEMBER 22)

As an earth sign, the Virgo mother is one of the most grounded, practical, and steady in the zodiac. Virgos are also known to be remarkable caregivers, as they go above and beyond to try to guide, protect, and nurture when they can. They are also aligned with the planet of the mind, Mercury, so they may at times take a very intellectual and logical approach to life, helping their children strategize whenever needed. Yet, this can at times lead them to be a bit overprotective and they may come across as critical—not that they seek to be challenging, but that they just want the best for who they love. When it comes to planners, Virgo mothers are one of the best around!

LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 – OCTOBER 22)

Libra mothers are ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty and harmony. This means that when it comes to their lives, homes, and families, they prefer a sense of serenity as much as possible. They often seek to be especially close with their children—mirroring them—which can often lead them to act more like friends as they age into adulthood. Charming, talkative, and popular, they can be a magnet for people and are natural social butterflies! However, as an air sign, they do possess great sensitivity, but may prefer to take a more logical approach to negotiating conflict. As a paramount of class and etiquette, they do often like to show they have the “perfect little life.”

SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 – NOVEMBER 21)

Of all the zodiac signs, Scorpio mothers are often the most intense, passionate, and mighty. This is because not only are they co-ruled by Mars and Pluto, but they are a water sign! This means that they often seek to bond extremely closely with their children—or may instead prefer to take a more distant approach, waiting in the shadows, reserved and mysterious, but always watching. They love with incredible depth, but may seek to conserve their energy for when it is needed—and then strike with dominance and authority when the time is right. This does not necessarily mean they are shadowy, but instead that they know exactly the time and place to express their intuitive, almost psychic wisdom. It’s also best not to try to lie to a Scorpio mother—they are often able to dig to the heart of matters and cannot be easily deceived!

SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 – DECEMBER 21)

As a fire sign ruled by Jupiter, the Sagittarius mother is exuberant, adventurous, and spontaneous. She often is eager for the next great horizon and embraces her need for freedom throughout her life. This can lead her to be impulsive at times, as if you never know what the unexpected can bring—but the best thing about having a Sagittarius mother is that they often are highly encouraging of their children to dance to the beat of their own drum, often giving them a great deal of freedom. As an eternal optimist, a Sagittarius mother tends to retain a degree of youthful energy throughout her life, as well as a buoyant sense of humor. Travel may be particularly important to a Sagittarius mother throughout her lifetime.

CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 – JANUARY 19)

With Capricorn being tied to ambition as well as tradition in astrology, you can expect the Capricorn mother to put great emphasis on both of these arenas in life. Whether it’s that she is immensely hardworking on her own career, she still does value the stability and security of having a strong base in family and the home. While she may not be one of the most outright emotional individuals of the zodiac, she is always a rock for those who she cares for. No matter what life throws at her—or her children—she can often figure out a logical, practical plan to win in the end.

AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 – FEBRUARY 18)

Tied to the planet of the future, Uranus, the Aquarius mother is also an air sign. This makes her one of the most highly intellectual and logical zodiac signs. She is also a fixed sign, which means that while she may initially be open to new ideas and ways of thought, once she makes up her mind, there’s no changing it. Because of this, an Aquarius mother may encourage with a steady hand, while encouraging discussion and living one’s life in pure authenticity—that is, the perception of authenticity that she sees in the world. This can cause her to be somewhat eccentric at times, as she goes about life seeking answers. On another note, Aquarius mothers also tend to be quite social and popular, preferring a wide network of acquaintances—and this may encourage her children to do so, as well.

PISCES (FEBRUARY 19 – MARCH 20)

Last but certainly not least, we have the Pisces mother. Pisces, as a zodiac sign, is ruled by Neptune and a water sign—which naturally means that these individuals are dreamy, sensitive, and often have an ethereal quality to them. Whether it’s that they’re highly intuitive, artistic, or spiritual, these mystical qualities can grant them a profound ability to not only understand life and people, but also their children on a soul level. Sometimes Pisces mothers seem as if they’re “not in this world” and are a bit in their own fantasy realm, but they are immensely caring, and will sacrifice for those who they love.. Sometimes they can almost tap into their children on a telepathic level, able to sense their feelings and experiences in a cosmic way.
