Spring Equinox: Beginning and Renewal

Tomorrow, as the sun moves into Aries, it is also the spring equinox.

As we start the zodiac year and welcome longer days, we have an opportunity to start fresh with new, brighter energy. Get what you want most out of life!

DANDELION

Dandelion has long been considered a weed due to how quickly it can spread, but it has a lot of beneficial traits and has been used medicinally for centuries.

Aside from its happy, sunny appearance, emerging in the spring when the sun starts to strengthen, dandelion is also edible raw or cooked. Try dandelion flowers and leaves as a colorful addition to a salad. They are high in fiber, as well as vitamins and minerals, including calcium.

The dandelion root can be used as a dried herb to help cleanse the liver. Dandelion tea can be used as a digestive aid, as well as a diuretic. Because dandelion tea is rich in potassium, it can work against bloating or for detoxing without causing an electrolyte imbalance.

When you were a child you might have made a wish as you blew the puffs off a mature dandelion. In mystical circles, it is used for divination and manifestation. Dandelions were thought to have a connection to the spirit world, so they can be used to call in spirits to help grant your wish.

The spring equinox is a time of beginning and renewal, so it calls for a change in perspective, perhaps seeing something in a new light.

Because dandelion has been so devalued despite being chock-full of helpful nutrients, calling on this humble but bright flower might bring some expansion into your life and help you reconsider what you value and what new possibilities you might be overlooking. Grounding Elements Pro Tip: Try this tea made from the roasted root of the dandelion plant for a nourishing mid-day ritual.
