New Moon in Aries: Taking Dangerous Risks to Satisfy Your Desires

On April 11, 2021 (7:31 PM Pacific Daylight Time), there will be a new moon at 22°25’ of Aries.

You can’t start a fire without a spark. Fortunately, sparks are flying at this new moon! And as the moon and sun spark off in cardinal-fire Aries, they’re lighting a fire under us as well. If we’ve been eager to make a new beginning, there’s truly no time like the present.

Ruled by go-getter Mars, Aries is all about action. But with Mars currently in intellectual Gemini, we’re putting just as much energy into mental activities as physical ones right now. The Aries moon’s sextile with Mars encourages informed risk-taking: Make an effort to get all the facts, before rushing headfirst into something new.

What Does the New Moon in Aries Mean

The moon and Mars also harmonize with Jupiter in Aquarius, making it easy to keep a positive and open-minded attitude. With the universe’s support, we can believe in ourselves—and have faith that there are plenty of good things to go around. Of course, a little friendly competition can be fun. But at this new moon, it doesn’t have to be a zero-sum game. Adding some extra fuel to this lunation’s fire, the sun and moon are joined by four other planets and asteroids in Aries:

Chiron in Aries touches upon our insecurities, and any fears of rejection we’re still carrying from the past. This isn’t to cause more pain, but to help us heal and rebuild self-confidence. By facing our fears and risking vulnerability, we can prove to ourselves how brave and bold we really are. Mercury helps us to speak our truth in a way that gets straight to the point. But this rapid-fire communication style can backfire if we aren’t careful. Before blurting out your new-moon intention—or anything else, for that matter—make sure you’ve really thought it through. Right now, our words and ideas pack an extra-powerful punch.

With Ceres in Aries, our primary concern is taking care of our own survival needs. But we’re also fired up to be fearless advocates for the health and safety of others—especially those more vulnerable and at-risk than ourselves.

Venus encourages us to be unapologetic about who we are and what we want. Still, her square with Pluto (exact an hour after this new moon) challenges our ability to satisfy our heart’s desires. Venus in Aries knows what she wants—and she wants it now. But with Pluto in Capricorn, wishes are fulfilled on spirit’s timetable, not our own. Our burning desires in the heat of the moment may not be aligned with our long-term best interests. So delaying gratification, at least for a day or two, might end up working in our favor.

By April 14, when Venus settles into stable, earthy Taurus, we’ll have a better sense of what we really want. So check in with yourself in a few days’ time, and circle back to your original new-moon intentions. Do they still light your fire? If the answer is an enthusiastic, full-bodied “Yes!”, then it’s time to name it and claim it.
