May’s New Moon in Taurus Wants You to Get Witchy!

On May 11, 2021 (12:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time), there will be a new moon at 21°18’ of Taurus.

At the Taurus new moon, we reach for the stars—while keeping our feet firmly planted on the ground. It’s a time to set down-to-earth intentions that improve our quality of life in tangible, practical ways.

If there’s something we want to manifest on the material plane, this new moon is our moment to make it real. But Taurus also teaches us to appreciate the abundance we already have, and take better care of our existing resources.

These include not only money and stuff, but our physical and energetic bodies as well. If we’ve been living or working at an unsustainable pace, our intention at this new moon might simply be to slow our roll.

That doesn’t necessarily mean we have to play it safe. Indeed, with Black Moon Lilith in the mix, this lunation invites us to take a walk on the wild (and witchy) side. We all have our own inner “earth goddess”—and Lilith in Taurus urges us to let her out. To honor our natural instincts and rhythms, and reclaim our right to feel both sexy and safe in our own skin.

Lilith is also about owning our desires—especially those we’ve been taught to see as shameful or wrong. We don’t always feel comfortable admitting what we want, or even worthy of receiving it. But at this new moon, we can confidently name it and claim it!

New Moon in Taurus Meaning

As the Taurus moon sextiles Neptune in Pisces, we’ll have ample opportunities to work with the law of attraction. Vision boards, affirmations, spells, rituals, and prayers can all be especially powerful right now. Just keep your expectations rooted in reality—and your intentions aligned with spiritual values.

With Pluto retrograde in Capricorn, our values systems are currently undergoing a major overhaul. And as the moon trines Pluto, by clearing out what no longer serves, we’re clearing a path for better things to come our way.

Still, it’s not just about what’s best for us. As the Taurus moon squares off with Jupiter in the final degree of Aquarius, we’re also challenged to consider the good of the group. Resist the temptation to hoard resources and opportunities, and make a good-faith effort to share the wealth instead.

As Mars in Cancer squares Chiron in Aries, we may struggle to believe that there’s enough to go around. But Mars also sextiles Uranus in Taurus, encouraging us to think outside the scarcity box. Reconsider what “enough” really means for you, and reimagine what security and stability might look like.

True, the Taurus moon can be a little set in its ways. But with its ruler Venus in Gemini, right now our hearts are more open to embracing new ideas. And with Mercury also in Gemini, the channels of communication are wide-open as well. As Mercury trines Saturn in Aquarius (May 12), efforts to connect over shared values will be rewarded with a desirable outcome for all.

Horoscopes for the New Moon in Taurus

Taurus

You should never second-guess yourself, Taurus. But sometimes, it’s good to keep yourself guessing. After all, when we find ourselves stuck in a rut, it’s usually because we’re stuck seeing ourselves in the same old way. This new moon is the perfect time to break the mold and subvert your own expectations.

Gemini

No one knows you better than you know yourself, Gemini. So at this new moon, it’s important to trust your instincts. Tune in to your body, perhaps through a yoga or mindfulness meditation practice, and listen to what its senses and sensations are telling you. Honor your inner “yes” and “no.”

Cancer

Who’s in and who’s out? At this new moon, Cancer, it’s time to reevaluate who belongs in your circle of trust. But don’t be surprised if the circle ends up growing larger rather than smaller. Some of the people you’ve been seeing as outsiders may reveal themselves to be kindred spirits.

Leo

We all want to be seen in the best possible light. But Leo, perhaps it’s time to get more comfortable showing your shadow. At this new moon, what you’ve been trying to hide about yourself may be exactly what others most need to see. Embodying all of yourself invites them to do the same.

Virgo

Conventional wisdom can be comforting, Virgo. But real-life situations are rarely that simple. So at this new moon, it’s best to avoid making your moral and ethical judgments set in stone. Leave your worldview some room to evolve in light of changing circumstances—and your own changes of heart.

Libra

Is it really better to give than to receive? Perhaps, Libra. Still, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying a little bit of both—especially in your intimate relationships. Don’t be shy about asking for what you want at this new moon. Whatever your heart desires, remember: You’re worth it!

Scorpio

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” In life and love, Scorpio, this is usually your approach. But the “broken” parts of ourselves are worthy of love, too. And at this new moon, one of your relationships may be ready for repair. Loving what is now creates the space for healing to happen.

Sagittarius

Feeling disenchanted with your regular routine? If so, Sag, this new moon is your chance to bring the magic back. Incorporating some new and earthy elements can transform your familiar environment into a sacred space. And approaching mundane tasks with the focused intention of ritual can elevate the everyday.

Capricorn

Stop and smell the roses, Capricorn! With so much natural beauty surrounding you, and so many simple pleasures just waiting to be savored, you’ll want to clear some space in your busy schedule to enjoy them at this new moon. Disrupt your regular routine to feed your senses and satisfy your soul.

Aquarius

Every family has its secrets, Aquarius. And at this new moon, you might just discover some of your own. Whatever’s coming up for you now about your childhood or ancestry, it’s there for you to reimagine and reclaim as part of your story. Remember, you have the right to shape your own narrative.

Pisces

Speak it into existence, Pisces! This new moon is your friendly reminder that the words we use shape our reality. So if you want to change your situation, using different words to describe it is a sensible way to start. Naturally, this includes what you’re saying and thinking about yourself.

Aries

Own it, Aries! At this new moon, there’s no shame in admitting you want something more out of life. Still, it’s equally fine if you aren’t feeling super ambitious right now. Perhaps the real definition of wealth is being happy with what you have—and enjoying material things in their proper perspective.
