Divine Masculine: Meaning, Traits, Awakening Symptoms

Divine masculine energy is the action-based counterpart to the divine feminine. Learn about what it is, traits, and how to find balance with divine feminine.

What Is Divine Masculine?

The divine masculine is the manifestation of male (or “Father”) energy within and around the Universe. According to Xavier Villanova, spiritualist and tarot reader for Tarot By Maisy, the divine masculine is the part of you that represents “the earthly side connected to labor, money, strategy, and self-restraint.”

“Male energy” can be symbolized by anything material in our outer world—such as money, body, health, energy, sexuality, home, family, and more. We can see it appear in our physical appearance or health, our daily energy, via the money we touch, the job we go to, and anything we deem successful or worthwhile in the world.

The divine masculine has a material mind, but it also has a logical mind. So, its main focus is to express through the emphasis on efficiency and practicality (as opposed to feelings or emotions).

But, with every yin, there is a yang. The divine masculine has a counterpart: the divine feminine. The two energies work together to create balance in the Universe. So, both the divine masculine and feminine are present everywhere we look—including within us.

It’s also important to note that the fluidity of gender is not represented by these terms. Every one of us—no matter our gender identity—can embrace both masculine and feminine energies. In fact, in order to find spiritual balance, we’ll want to learn how to do this.

Traits and Keywords

Villanova offered a few keywords that might suffice to express the divine masculine:

• Protection
• Discipline
• Authority
• Guidance
• Resilience
• Maturity
• Responsibility
• Leadership
• Logic
• Action
• Stoic
• Relentless
• Confident
• Committed
• Willful

Divine Masculine vs. Divine Feminine

The relationship between divine masculine and feminine is best represented as head vs. heart. One side wants to listen to feelings, emotions, and sensitivities, while the other is focused on finding restraint, balance, and foundation.

However, these two energies are not fighting against one another. “It’s not that [divine masculine energy] is different,” explains Villanova, “but complementary.”

We are born with both masculine and feminine energy within us. The protective external world of the divine masculine cannot exist without the inner world of the divine feminine providing growth and movement—and vice versa.

Villanova explains that, from birth, we are born with both masculine and feminine energy within us. “We have a father and a mother, both in real life and within ourselves.” However, some of us may lean on one of our sides more than the other.

How to Awaken Divine Masculine Energy

In order to be a spiritually awakened person, you must learn how to embrace—and balance—both the divine masculine and feminine.

Here are a few sure-fire ways to make it happen, according to Villanova:

Take responsibility. “Stop blaming your parents for what they didn’t provide for you, and reclaim your power to navigate through life as you see fit,” he explains.

Practice grounding exercises. The divine masculine is about being stable and purposeful. So, grounding exercises like yoga, meditation, or sitting in nature, might be helpful to find that inner peace.

Take care of someone or something. This energy really prides itself on being the provider or the safe haven for people or animals in need. It’s about “responsibility,” says Villanova, “not only for yourself but for your people.”
