December’s Full Moon in Gemini Gives Us Cause for Celebration

On December 11, 2019 at 9:12 p.m., the full moon will be in Gemini (19°52’).

Full moons often make us aware of things that have been flying under our emotional radar. And this one reveals opportunities that have been hiding in plain sight!

Suddenly, we see that more options are available to us than we previously thought. They’ve been there all along; perhaps it just took the “look-on-the-bright-side” Sagittarius sun to help us see them.

This is cause for celebration, but it can also be overwhelming. With so many head-turning options to choose from, it’s easy to lose our sense of direction and get distracted from our true path. Thinking out loud or talking it over with trusted friends can help get us back on track.

What does this full moon in Gemini mean?

Lunation ruler Mercury in Sagittarius (at the same degree as the November 26 new moon ) invites us to reflect on what we’ve learned from our journey so far, but also to seek out the wisdom of more experienced travelers. By learning from their mistakes, perhaps we can avoid repeating them ourselves. Still, with Mercury quincunx retrograde Uranus in Taurus, we may be too stubborn to take anyone else’s word for it!

Mercury is also just coming off a trine to Chiron in Aries —and as Chiron stations direct on December 12, any wounds we have around being “wrong” or not knowing enough feel especially tender. But we’re supported in responding graciously when, inevitably, someone else knows more than we do or has a greater claim to the moral/ethical high ground.

A sense of humor helps, especially because, with Jupiter newly in Capricorn and coming off his own square to Chiron, we’re prone to taking ourselves a little too seriously. Remember, challenging situations that trigger our insecurities are really just opportunities to grow. The expanded sense of self-discipline and responsibility we gain from them will make it easier to capitalize on the opportunities revealed by this full moon.

With Saturn and Pluto also inching toward conjunction in Capricorn, this sign’s ultra-responsible energy dominates the sky right now. And as Venus connects with both of these power players around the full moon, she gently reminds us that it’s our responsibility to cultivate and care for the things we love, desire, and value the most.

Fortunately, a trine between Mars in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces (exact on December 13) supports us in digging deep and directing our willpower toward realizing our ideals, dreams, and visions. We’re empowered to act as “spiritual warriors” by seeing, and then working to manifest, the highest potential in any situation. Horoscopes for December’s Full Moon in Gemini

Gemini

It’s the end of an era, Gemini. As you move from one phase of life into the next, some aspects of your identity may not be coming with you. Let yourself feel all the feels—from sadness at what you’re leaving behind, to joy at the person you’re about to become.

Cancer

Little things mean a lot, Cancer. And right now, it’s the most ordinary, mundane situations in your life that have the most profound spiritual lessons to teach you. To learn them well, though, you’ll need to take a step back and give yourself time and space to reflect.

Leo

The world is your oyster, Leo! But there’s a chance that not all the possibilities being offered to you are really for you. Before you take your pick, make sure it’s something you really enjoy that feels like an authentic expression of who you are.

Virgo

You can’t be in two places at once, Virgo (as much as you may wish to be). And with public and personal lives making equal claims on your attention right now, only you can choose where your time and energy will go. Make the choice that’s kindest to yourself and others.

Libra

There’s always more to learn, Libra—but trying to learn it all at once is a recipe for confusion! Some of the subjects sparking your interest right now may turn out to be just momentary distractions, so keep your eye on those with the potential to grow into lifelong passions.

Scorpio

Give and take, Scorpio. It’s the foundation of any successful partnership. Still, sometimes even the best relationships can get off-balance… and this full moon is showing you where. Be honest with yourself (and them) about who needs to give more, and whose turn it is to receive.

Sagittarius

Relationships are mirrors, Sag. And what they show us about ourselves depends a lot on how we’re showing up in them with our energy, actions, and words. If you’re not happy with what you’re seeing at this full moon, it’s up to you to change the picture.

Capricorn

Your to-do list is epic, Capricorn! But most likely, not every task on it is truly meaningful or essential. Some of them may just be busywork that scatters your energy and distracts you from what really needs to be done. This full moon shows you where and how to reprioritize.

Aquarius

Living the dream! Aquarius, you’ve been given some BIG opportunities this year, and done everything in your power to make the most of them. After all, you know success isn’t all fun and games. Ideally, though, it should be fun at least most of the time—and particularly around this full moon.

Pisces

Who you are in public and who you are in private may seem like different people, Pisces, but they’re two sides of the same coin. The goals you’re pursuing in the world “out there” can be nourished and sustained by spending time in your own little world (and vice versa).

Aries

You’re a quick study, Aries! But not everything worth knowing can be learned in the blink of an eye. It takes focus and mental discipline to stick with a thought or idea long enough to grasp its true meaning. This full moon helps you choose the trains of thought worth following.

Taurus

Share the wealth, Taurus! Between the resources you’ve cultivated for yourself and the ones you’re fortunate enough to receive through connections with others, there’s more than enough to go around. And with big blessings come big responsibilities—either to return the favor or to pay it forward. Art by Natasha Chomko
