Cosmic Messenger Series: Under the Mercury in Taurus Transit, Our Minds and Bodies Become One
Mercury enters Taurus on April 27, 2020, at 12:53 p.m. and will leave Taurus to enter Gemini on May 11 of 2020 at 2:58 p.m.
Mercury, the ruler of our minds, technology, and all things with “moving parts,” circles the sun faster than any other planet. Just larger than the earth’s moon, Mercury is the giver of logic, clarity, and perception as well. Ancient astrologers noticed that both, Mercury and the moon were the fastest moving celestial bodies, just as our minds and emotions are what we run on alongside the life force of the mighty sun.
In recent months, beginning with the foggy transit of Mercury through Pisces causing panic and confusion on a global scale with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic unleashed, our planet of the mind was able to pick up steam and find more clarity as it danced through Aries. Now, with it moving forward into Taurus, we are able to find a more grounded perspective about our lives and our position upon the world’s stage.
Mercury in Taurus Meaning & Effects
When Mercury is in Taurus, our thoughts are down-to-earth, grounded, and practical. Taurus is the first earth sign of the zodiac, taking the passionate ideas of Aries and making them a tangible reality. While Mercury’s energy in Aries can get us lost in the “big picture,” Mercury in Taurus knows how to create plans and persevere to the finish line.
During this time, we will find common sense to be the supreme ruler of our minds, as we do not want to get sidetracked on unrealistic plans or overzealous attitudes. Collectively, we will want facts and a map of what works and how to make it happen. We communicate deliberately now and like to focus on one thing at a time. Speaking and decision-making may be slower during this transit, not because we are confused or sluggish, but because when we decide something, we want to stick to it.
We will also desire fairness and honesty. One lovely attribute of the Mercury in Taurus transit is that our sensual side awakens. We focus on incorporating information into our perception through the five senses: how we see it, how we feel it, how it tastes, how it sounds, and how it smells. This is because Venus, the planet of sensuality and beauty, naturally rules Taurus. This flavor is layered upon our minds and it is likely we will notice some of the finer details in our interactions and about the world around us.
While there are many benefits to having Mercury in Taurus, there will be some warnings to heed. Taurus is a fixed sign and does not like change. In fact, Taurus is the zodiac sign that dislikes change the most in the entire zodiac. This can lead our thinking to be overly rigid, stubborn, or narrow-minded. We often set our minds upon something and nothing can shift our perception of it unless we, ourselves, decide to do so. Mercury in Taurus is also especially conservative and does not take as many risks as other more flexible zodiac signs are prone to do.
This specific transit of Mercury begins with some jarring astrological aspects within days of entering Taurus. On April 28, Mercury clashes in a violent square with Saturn in Aquarius. This might activate gloomy thoughts and make it difficult to communicate well. Conflicts could arise, so it is best to not step out of bounds. However, this transit favors hard mental work.
April 30 brings forth a highly electric current both in our thoughts and in our lives as Mercury forms a conjunction with Uranus. Unexpected news may arrive, delivering excitement and the possibility for brilliant breakthroughs. However, our minds will also feel erratic and may have difficulty focusing.
When the sun and Mercury form a conjunction on May 4, expect clarity to come to you as well as the ability to communicate accurately. This will be a favorable day, leading to more benefic aspects in the week ahead. Mercury sextiles Neptune on the, bearing enchanting creative or spiritual vibrations. Then, Mercury trines Pluto on May 9, drawing influence and favor to you. It then forms a spectacular trine with Jupiter on May 10 as well, creating a fortunate period in which abundance and luck could their way to you.
Yet, just as Mercury is ready to set sail into Gemini on May 11, it forms a sharp square with Mars in Aquarius. Friction is nearly guaranteed, so keep your wits about you.
The dates when you should keep your mind and emotions in check are April 30, May 2, and May 7, when the moon brings intensity to your communications.
